Ghana Secondary Technical School, G.S.T.S at 115 Anniversary Launched

Ghana Secondary Technical School, G.S.TS, has officially launched its 115th anniversary celebrations with a grand ceremony attended by a cross section of Staff, students, Alumni and the public.

The anniversary is celebrated under the theme; “Building Our Legacy, Charting New Horizons: 115th Years of Excellence at G.S.T.S”.

Headmaster of the school, Rev. Kennedy Obeng (PhD) in his welcome address highlighted the school achievements over the years and its commitment to providing quality technical and quality education that meets the evolving needs of society.

“The School’s legacy is founded on hard work, dedication, and a common vision. The school has gone a long way, and our testament are a reflection of our combined efforts. The school has laid a solid basis, and now it is time to explore a new horizon. We are thrilled and optimistic about the future” he said

He added that, they will continue to come up with new ideas, push the limits, and strive for perfection. According to him, they will seize the opportunity to take on new challenges while also building on their heritage and forging ahead with a more hopeful future for future generations.

“As we look ahead, our successes demonstrate how hard we have all worked together. Now that we have set a firm foundation, it is time to explore unchartered territory since building a legacy is a lifelong endeavor. Building a legacy is a lifetime process, but it starts with taking action today. Each single action you take toward your objectives will compound over time and add to the legacy you are building. We are full of optimism and expectation, and the school will continue to innovate, push limits, and strive for excellence. We would embrace new Challenges and possibilities. We would build on our history, creating a brighter future for ourselves and future generations”, he said.

Chairing the launching event, Giant John Aidoo ’72/H6, in his speech emphasized the crucial role G.S.T.S has play in the development of nations as they produce professionals to solve problems and mention few success the school has choked so far.

“As Chairman of this launch, I want us to be attentive to the essence of the celebration. As we embark on this journey of celebrations, let us not forget the profound meaning behind our Anniversary’s theme and urged everyone gathered here to have a unique role to play in making its 115th Anniversary a resounding success” he said.

Giant Daniel kwadjo Teye speaking on behalf of Alumni Association president, they admit that they sometimes get concerned about whether our school is “off track.” Despite some challenges, he retreated to assure everyone that GSTS is and will continue to be a center of educational excellence in Ghana.
He is confident about the future of excellence at GSTS because, as an alumni family, they are doing the right things by partnering with their alma mater to build legacy and chart new horizons.

“Over 115 years, generations of Giants and staff have left various legacies. They passed on to us many things that made us proud as Giants. It is our turn to create our legacy, which we will proudly pass on to the next generation” he said.

He expresses how grateful they are to the Giants who have taken this responsibility of leaving their legacy seriously through their donations, large and small, their projects, and their volunteerism. As a result of this commitment, they have begun the renewal of the campus with renovations, new constructions, and support for students in various ways, such as scholarship awards,
curricular and extracurricular support, and staff support.

Giant Teye added that looking around campus today, you will see an infrastructural transformation that has taken place over the past five years. The Alumni Association, through its various initiatives and fundraising efforts, has been instrumental in these transformations, demonstrating our commitment to the school’s future.

Through year groups, chapters, individual Giants, and friends of GSTS, they have
replaced all the over 80-year-old leaking asbestos roofs on the three dormitory blocks, the dining hall, and the classroom blocks. They have renovated the old Sick Bay into one of the best such facilities in any secondary school in Ghana. These upgrades are all possible because of Giants’ continuous support and contributions, he said

A fundraising held during the launching saw various sums of contributions by individuals, staff, year groups among others to help support the activities lined-up.

The program will be climaxed on the 28th October 2024 to 3rd November, 2024 at the school premises
