Gifty Afenyi Dadzie, a media practitioner and former President of the Ghana Journalists Association, was among the 182 new lawyers called to the Bar in a special session.
This event took place on May 31, 2024. The General Legal Council, which is responsible for overseeing legal education in Ghana, called these new lawyers.
The Chief Justice, Gertrude Esaaba Torkornoo, welcomed the new lawyers and urged them to use their knowledge to help build society rather than to tear it apart.
In addition to Gifty Afenyi Dadzie, another notable individual called to the Bar during this session was Elorm Ababio, popularly known as Ama Governor. Ama Governor’s journey to the Bar faced a temporary setback when a complaint was filed against her, alleging misconduct.
However, she was eventually granted the opportunity to complete her application process and was finally called to the Bar in the October/November 2023 sessions. This was after her conduct was closely monitored in the period leading up to the submission of her application for bar admission.
