According to Financial Times, former UK ambassador to Ghana and recently to Mexico, Jon Benjamin, has been sacked after ‘jokingly’ pointing an assault rifle at a local embassy employee during an official trip to dangerous northern Mexican states.
He’s no longer listed on as the ambassador on the UK government website.
A video of the incident was posted on social media via subdiplomatic, leading to the ambassador’s removal from his post.
Jon Benjamin, a career diplomat, had been the UK ambassador to Mexico since 2021 and previously held diplomatic posts in Turkey, Indonesia, and the US as well.
