Mauricio Pochettino leaves Chelsea after one year as manager
Mauricio Pochettino has left Chelsea by mutual consent, the Premier League club announced on Tuesday. Despite his efforts, Pochettino’s tenure was marked by challenges. Chelsea finished sixth (6th) in the Premier League standings, reached the semifinals of the FA Cup, and was a beaten finalist in the English League Cup. However, they failed to secure qualification for the Champions League.
Pochettino took over at the end of the previous season after Chelsea’s American owners had already dismissed Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter. While he managed to secure European soccer in either the Europa League or Conference League, it was another disappointing year for a team that had won the Champions League as recently as 2021. Pochettino, a former Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham manager, leaves Chelsea without securing his first trophy in English soccer after previous spells with Southampton and Tottenham
