Burna Boy has consistently maintained that he writes all his songs himself. He has emphasized that no one has ever written a song for him, and the songwriting credits on his songs are attributed to producers or featured artists.

Burna Boy clarified that in the Western music industry, producers are often considered writers of the instrumentals, leading to their names being credited as songwriters. However, he firmly stated that nobody can write for “Odogwu,” which is his nickname.

IShowSpeed’s Africa Tour Shifts American Views on the Continent

IShowSpeed’s “Speed Does Africa” Tour is massively reshaping how many Americans (and global viewers) perceive the continent, turning long-held stereotypes upside down through raw, unfiltered live streams.

The 20-year-old American streamer (Darren Watkins Jr.), known for his high-energy chaos, kicked off this ambitious 28-day IRL livestream tour on December 29, 2025, visiting up to 20 African countries (including South Africa, Angola, Mozambique, Eswatini, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Rwanda, and more planned like Ghana, Senegal, Morocco, Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt, and others). As of January 11, 2026, he’s deep into the journey, racking up millions of concurrent viewers per stream and breaking records—like 4.1 million views in just hours in Rwanda.

The tour’s impact? It’s sparking emotional reactions worldwide, especially among Americans who admit to being “brainwashed” by outdated narratives of Africa as only “jungles, huts, poverty, and danger.” Speed’s streams showcase vibrant cities, modern infrastructure, incredible hospitality, wildlife safaris, street culture, and genuine warmth—leading to viral moments of viewers rethinking everything.

Here are some epic moments capturing the energy and beauty Speed is sharing:

How It’s Shifting Views

  • Stereotype-busting in real time: Pre-tour comments joked about “no Wi-Fi” or getting “robbed,” but Speed’s experiences flipped the script—viewers now say things like “I didn’t know Africa was this beautiful” or “Africans are so welcoming.”
  • Emotional reactions from the diaspora: Many Black Americans have shared tearful videos, realizing the “real Africa” contrasts sharply with media portrayals. Some even joke (or seriously consider) moving there due to the affordability, family vibes, and lack of the negativity they face elsewhere.
  • Personal growth for Speed: He’s called it life-changing, regretting not coming sooner, feeling genuine happiness, and praising the love and natural lifestyle.

This isn’t just entertainment—it’s a cultural reset, proving how one creator’s platform can challenge decades of misinformation. With more countries ahead (fingers crossed for epic stops in West and North Africa like Ghana, Senegal, and Morocco), the conversation is only growing. What do you think—has Speed’s tour changed how YOU see Africa?
